OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

 

AREAS WE CAN HELP INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • A child who has a delay in meeting fine and/or gross motor milestones

  • A child with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, PDD, Autistic spectrum disorders, dysfunction of sensory integration, Down syndrome, congenital anomalies, or other neurological disorders

  • A child who is having trouble with skills in activities of daily living like feeding and dressing

  • A child with balance and coordination difficulties

  • A child who has difficulty with organization

  • A child who has difficulty with handwriting

  • A child who over-reacts or under-reacts to movement, touch, or sound.

  • A child who is struggling with behavioral social skills

  • A child who is a picky eater

  • A child who demonstrates no hand preference after age 6

  • A child who struggles to regulate his/her activity level



Occupational Therapy:

Step Forward Therapy offers initial assessment and ongoing treatment for children with developmental delays, sensory and or regulatory challenges, Autism spectrum, Pervasive developmental disorder (PDD), attention deficit, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, congenital anomalies and other neurological disorders.  Occupational therapy focuses on ones ability to participate in daily life activities, at home, school and the community.  ​Our occupational therapist use purposeful and motivating activities to work with clients to develop improved motor planning, sensory processing and regulation, organizational skills, visual motor, adaptive play skills as well as behavior and social skills. These skills allow the child to participate more fully in the home, classroom and community.  


We utilize the most current treatment methods and up-to-date strategies to meet the needs of each individual child.    


Evaluations:

We will provide an evaluation of your child including; sensory processing, fine motor and visual motor integration.


Consultation with school personnel:

At Step Forward Therapy, our therapists have background knowledge and experience in working with IEPs and 504 plans. We can consult with you and your school to make sure your child is getting all the services they need to be successful within the school environment.  



Step Forward Therapy Inc. has therapists trained in both Integrated Listening Systems (iLs) as well as Therapeutic Listening. 


Integrated Listening Systems (iLs)

iLs is a multisensory program designed to exercise the visual, auditory and vestibular systems in order to improve emotional regulation while simultaneously training the brain to process sensory information.  This allows the person to successfully engage in social situations as well as demonstrate improved focus. 

 

Therapeutic Listening

Developed in order to help individuals improve sensory processing, listening, attention and communication.  Therapeutic Listening uses high quality music  to naturally capture attention and allow individuals to respond to their world.




We offer services at our office, as well as in home, daycare, school, and other community settings.
